We’ve been spending a lot of time in the water because, well, because it’s Texas. And it’s HOT. Some of you may remember all the kids took swim lessons at the beginning of the summer. And that’s good, because one mom and three shorties just isn’t safe if one of the shorties can’t hold their breath.
The kids all improved, but Letty’s progress is frankly remarkable. And scary. The child now flings herself into the water, points her body in some random direction, and sticks out her arms hoping for a wall or another body to pull her up. If you leave her down long enough she will even give a couple of half kicks. But I don’t think she can remember to kick and hold her breath at the same time. So usually she starts kicking about the time she comes up for air.
She also insists on loves to jump off the side. Into any depth of water. And then same thing, she sticks out those arms and trusts the best will happen. Huh.
And if that wasn’t enough to turn this mom’s pink hair gray, she decided in the bath tonight to practice all these skills. First she wanted to float on her back. Then she turned over to practice kicks. One, two, she counts.
The child does love the water. Good thing. It probably won’t cool down til October.
